Trichotomy's compelling, hugely dynamic trio music draws on sounds of avant-rock, ECM minimalism and their love of collective improvisation, in an entrancing Australian echo of the European jazz innovations of the likes of EST or Tord Gustavsen. Modern, imaginative & thoroughly inventive, this is a group in total control of their sound world. Having carved out a reputation as one of the most exciting trios in contemporary jazz, this Australian trio is a unique voice in modern music.

"HEALTHY" reviews..

Some great reviews of HEALTHY coming in….
here's the first

At the Bangalow Chamber Music Festival with the Southern Cross Soloists and Leigh Carriage

Our show with SxS and Leigh is coming up fast… quite fast! It's this weekend, Saturday afternoon at the picturesque country town of Bangalow in northern NSW.
The show will be quite special, we'll be performing some trio work with Leigh, bringing out one of our works for string quartet, and rearranging the APRA Jazz Work of the Year nominated track "That which is not fleeting".
BUT….. the real highlight is out TWO world premiere performances. Firstly, John's unique arrangement "For you Alone", comprising of some Stravinsky and a surprise jazz standard and secondly,  Sean's new extended work for SxS, Leigh and Trichotomy, 'The Odd Couple'.

This will be a unique concert event for us… working with Leigh and the Southern Cross Soloists allows us to extend our music into new territories…. quite exciting.
Now we know that for our fans outside of Australia and down south in Melbourne and beyond it's hard to get up to Bangalow for this short performance, so we're filming the entire show for broadcast online shortly afterwards.. this will only be available to fans on our mailing list. Details will be sent out shortly after the performance.

We're also creating a documentary about the development process of 'The Odd Couple'.   That will be available soon, and will come with a free PDF score of the work & audio recording. Stay tuned.

This project has been assisted by the Australian Government through the Australia Council, its arts funding and advisory body.

Heading towards more collaborations!

It's been a busy time lately… we've been on tour in Japan, and then performing at festivals in Australia with special guest Saxophonist Julian Arguelles. Quite fun, and we ARE working on editing a load of live video recordings… we'll post them soon :)
Now we're are focused on 3 exciting collaborations that round out the rest of 2014.
Firstly, we'll be performing with the SOUTHERN CROSS SOLOISTS at the Bangalow Chamber Music Festival on the 16th August. This is quite an exciting show and features the premiere of  new work composed by Trichotomy pianist Sean Foran, supported by the Australian Council for the Arts. The Southern Cross Soloists are one of Australia's most acclaimed chamber groups, and… just to make the show even more interesting,  we'll also be joined by the wonderful vocalist LEIGH CARRIAGE.

Next up is our performance at the Tyalgum Music Festival, and this time we are joined by the wind quintet LUNAIRE ENSEMBLE. Again, we're lucky to premiere some new work, and also re-imagine some older Trichotomy material……

Finally, our last show in this 3 collaboration series is part of the DECLASSIFIED MUSIC series, and will feature the trio and string quartet. A year or so ago we wrote a set of music for string quartet and performed in at selected shows around the country, Melbourne Fringe Festival, Stradbroke Island Festival…anyway.. it's excellent to get the chance to play this again, with a new quartet and also with another new work.

Phew. OK…. nice to let you all know what's going on … and now back to the writing.

"Healthy" album out now!

We're really pleased to get this back out. It was recorded a few years back, and pulled from distro not long after release…. long story… anyway… SO pleased to have it out again. It's a beautiful album of really interesting music.

“HEALTHY” is just that, the heathy combination of like musical minds. Consisting of a blend of works from composers in each ensemble the resulting album is breathtaking. One could compare it to the sounds minimalist sounds of Michael Nyman, Terry Riley and Steve Reich, with a touch of Astor Piazolla, and the modern jazz influences of  Pat Metheny. Wrap this up in the visual, cinematic style of Bernard Hermann and the Cinematic Orchestra and you’re getting close.
